Spring, Sprang, Sprung... Springed?

Hello?

Is anyone there?
Did I lose anyone?

I hope not!

Oh good - I didn't!

Spring has sprung. Or sprang. Or springed.
It's here, anyway, and I am one happy girl!
Today was 88 degrees and beautiful!
In the last post I wrote, we were sledding. Can you believe that since then, we have gone to the beach, been on numerous hikes, been rock climbing, and can now smell the entire population of Dover barbequeing every night? It's amazing.

On a beautiful Thursday afternoon, Dan and I took off and went to Algonquit Beach in Maine.

We played cribbage and did some light
           (and not so light) reading.

                          We have fun.

There is never a shortage of laughter when we are doing something together.
Why?
Because we learn to laugh with each other, and (most importantly) to laugh at ourselves.

Basically....

There are a lot of times throughout the day that I realize Dan is a great husband.
He helps me to laugh.
He believes in me.
He is patient.
What a good gift!

Dan competed at the University's biannual bouldering competition.
I was tempted to join, but there were lots of people and I get boulder-shy...

We spent Easter Sunday with "New Hampshire Mom and Dad"
;)
Uncle Jim and Aunt Beth also joined us,
as well as Dave and Ari and their new addition to the family, Nika.

They family was sweet and humored me by getting my "traditional Easter photo".

I missed my own family a lot on my first holiday away, and didn't realize until Easter how much the little traditions of a family can mean so much, and be missed so much.
Momma sent me a picture of my Easter basket, complete with "Chic-a-dee" Peeps, since the nickname she has given me since I was little has been "chicadee". I also missed all the "corny" things Momma did around Easter, which I now treasure so much. I also miss the little (big) ways she incorporated the true meaning of the holiday into everything. The Easter banner hanging outside. The food somehow shaped like a cross. The Easter programs at Bethel Baptist. Easter dresses. And the traditional family photo of everyone in pastel blues, happy pinks, and spring greens. It's fun to think that these memories don't have to end though! Now I can carry on the traditions and start new things each holiday with me and Dan, and in the future with our family!

Easter was a fun time in New Hampshire though, no worries. I love being able to match Uncle Jim's with wit and getting kisses on the cheek from Aunt Beth. I love any chance I get to see Dave and Ari. And Mom and Dad are simply part of my life and my loved ones now. Especially now that I feel comfortable calling them "Mom and Dad"!
My sweet Dan and I had a great first Easter!

And now... drum roll...
The moment you all (or at least some) of you have been waiting for...
I give you...

Horatio
the handsomest, smartest, most dashing kitten you will ever meet.

We got Horatio from the Humane Society in Dover. We were really hoping to get a gray kitten - and we did! He is just so handsome, in his gray suit and white accents. He reminds me of a lynx somehow, with their beautifully patterned fur on his belly. The white around his eyes and slashes on his forearms and back legs make for a dashing little kitten. His ears are also trimmed in white and he has hazel eyes with green in the center. We chose the name Horatio because of our love of the book series about "Horatio Hornblower", a naval officer during the Napoleonic Wars. Horatio was incredibly smart and immediately respected by those he met, even though he was a bit gangly and less than handsome.
Our kitten makes us laugh so hard! He talks to us with loud meows, and we have a very hard time doing any kind of work on the computer since he prefers to type for us (he's really begging for kisses and attention). We laugh so hard when he uses the liter box, too. He talks VERY loudly when he visits the box. We're not sure if he's protesting the conditions or....?
The first night we had Horatio, he slept peacefully through the night at the foot of our bed.
But at 4:50 a.m. with very loud purring, soft meows, and a padded-paw on the cheek, he let us know that it was time for everyone to get up. Ten minutes after we set him outside of our door, he ceased his meowing and let us sleep until it was time to get up for church.

He's a keeper.

Could YOU get any work done
with him staring at you?

He's so playful!

                      Play hard, sleep hard.

In other news, we also got out rock climbing with several friends of ours.
Toby and Jenni, Chris and Gwen, Danny and Hannah, and Jon and Becca.

Like I said, Hannah and Danny are a couple that went with us. When we moved here, they were one of the first couple of friends we had. We have loved getting to know them, hanging out with them, and enjoying great times together! Now, they are headed back to the mission field from their furlough here in the States. If you would, pray for them as they go back! There is always an element of danger going abroad, so prayers for safety would be great. But also, pray that they find daily encouragement from hearing from their friends back in the States, and that their mission work overseas will have an impact. Hannah and Danny love the Lord, and we love them!

On the same note, also keep my friend Chelsey in your prayers. She is also doing full-time missions work in the Ukraine. You can check out the awesome work she is doing by going to her blog: http://keepupwithchelsey.blogspot.com/2012/04/english-club.html. Chelsey and I went to middle school together, and it is so neat to see her in the Ukraine with her family serving God! She is so smart, level-headed and in love with God. Send up a prayer for her today!

I do believe that is all for now. Bed time has arrived....
BUT.
Another blog post is soon-to-come
becaaauuuse...
I have lots more to share
:)
You'll see.

Lots and lots and lots of love,
